TUGUEGARAO CITY – To make the presence of the government felt by the fisherfolk in the province of Cagayan, the fisheries Bureau organized the Provincial Fisherfolk Assembly on August 8, 2024 at Robinsons Place- Tuguegarao.

Said activity serves as a platform for fisherfolk and fisheries stakeholders to elevate concerns and pressing issues and also identify appropriate interventions from the national government through the fisheries Bureau.

Likewise, representatives from partner local government units were provided with a shopping list on the various fisheries-based opportunities and economically-viable business endeavors that can be adopted.

Priority programs for the fisheries sector initiated by the provincial government of Cagayan were presented by Melvin Mangawil of the Provincial Agriculture Office.

The agency also invited Bernard Evangelista of Landbank, Rosetom Molina of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation as Resource Speakers to present insurance programs intended for farmers and fisherfolk.

Aquatic species that are prohibited for catching and trading were presented for information dissemination purposes and corresponding fisheries laws.

Organized by the Provincial Fishery Office Of Cagayan and the Bureau’s training arm, the event was attended by hatchery operators, local fish traders and representatives from local government units of Cagayan.
