Tuao, Cagayan – On August 12, 2024, another fisherfolk-beneficiary can’t contain his happiness for the successful turn-out of his venture in tilapia grow-out culture through the pond-based technology demonstration awarded by the fisheries bureau as livelihood assistance in barangay Accusilian of this town.

The technology demonstration is a collaborative project of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and Local Government Unit which began with the stocking of 6,000 pcs tilapia on April 15, 2024, has progressed over a 4-month culture period. During the initial harvest, it yielded about 55 kgs. The tilapia, averaging 3-4 pieces per kilo, were harvested using partial harvesting method.

Mr. Francisco Baturi, the techno demo’s recipient, expressed his satisfaction with the results achieved. With the initial harvest successfully completed, the technology project now sets its sights on a target production of 1,275 kgs upon total harvest with 85% survival rate and projected 44.39% return on investment (ROI). Income that will be generated from the project will be used to sustain the succeeding operation.

Meantime, Hon. Pocholo Baligod, Sanggunian Bayan Committee on Agriculture expressed his gratitude to the bureau in extending such technology in the municipality. “Giving this type of technology guarantees the sustainability of fish in the locality”, he added.
