An advocate of the government’s program on the promotion of “Education for all” or inclusive education, the DA-BFAR 2 Fisheries Scholarship Program team conducted an information campaign on the free educational grant sponsored by the Philippine government to students who are interested to pursue a degree in fisheries on August 14, 2024 at Illuru National High School in Barangay Illuru Norte, Rizal, Cagayan.
About 120 senior students attended the event, wherein they were oriented on the free education program and benefits of the scholarship grant.
The FSP team also visited Piat National High School in Piat, Cagayan, and Sampaguita National High School, in Solana, Cagayan for the scholarship briefing.
Established in August 1979, the FSP provides scholarship grants covering three categories namely; Fisheries Industry Leader Grant (FILG) for Senior high school graduates and graduating students with Honors, Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant (FCEG) for Senior high school graduates and graduating students whose parent/s or guardian/s are registered municipal fisherfolk and FSP Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (FSP-ICCs/IPs) for poor but deserving Alternative Learning System (ALS)/ High School/ Senior High School graduates/ graduating students who are members of a particular ICCs & Ips recognized by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP). Applicants must not be more than 25 years of age and have not earned any units in college.
Scholarship support for the three categories includes free matriculation and other school fees, monthly stipend of P 5,000.00, Semestral book allowance of P 2,000.00, OJT support of P 3,000.00, Thesis support of P 7,000.00 and graduation support of P 1,500.00.
Joint efforts from LGUs and academic institutions are expected to increase as the deadline of submission of application was extended until August 23, 2024.
