BAGGAO, Cagayan- The BFAR 2 and the local government of Baggao recently hosted a harvest field day showcasing the successful grow out culture of Tilapia in Barangay Mocag, Baggao on August 15, 2024 as part of the Bureau’s efforts to boost tilapia production and enhance fish sufficiency in the region, while providing a sustainable livelihood project to local communities.
The Bureau awarded full project assistance to the cooperator Mr. Edilberto V. Miguel, wherein around 3,000 pieces of tilapia fingerlings was initially stocked.
During the harvest field day, he was elated to see the fruits of his hardwork upon seeing the market-sized tilapia produced from his farm, with a partial harvest of 130 kilograms. Upon full harvest it is expected to yield 850 kilograms of 3-4 pieces per kilo with an 85% survival rate, the project boasts an impressive ROI of 43.34%.
Meantime, Mr. Ghiner Manding, the Municipal Agriculturist, expressed his sincere appreciation to the fisheries bureau for selecting Baggao as the project recipient for this year’s technology demonstration. He encouraged local fisherfolks to consider venturing into aquaculture, using Mr. Miguel’s success story as inspiration. Additionally, Mr. Miguel expressed his gratitude and eagerness to continue the project, pledging to share his valuable insights and best practices with the local community.
The activity was attended by Ms. Jennifer Tattao, Provincial Fishery Officer – Cagayan and her staff, FPSSD Staff, Mr. Ghiner Manding, Municipal Agriculturists and his staff, Barangay Officials of Mocag, San Jose, and Bitag Pequeño, fisherfolks and other members of the community.
