Ambaguio, Nueva Vizcaya — A new aquaculture hub in the highlands is underway following the successful turn-out of Tilapia and Ulang farming showcased during the harvest field day in barangay Labang on August 20, 2024.
The harvest field day of a pond-based technology demonstration and livelihood project was organized by the DA-BFAR 2’s Provincial Fishery Office, in collaboration with the local government unit, strives to promote the economic benefits of tilapia and ulang farming to fishermen in the highland areas.
A 600-square-meter pond was used as a techno-demonstration, with 1800 tilapia fingerlings and 1,200 Ulang.
After four months of culture Mr. Felipe Agamas, project-cooperator, partially harvested 342 kilograms tilapia with an average body weight of 300 grams, or 2-4 pieces per kilo, while 15 kilograms ulang, or 23 pieces per kilo with Average Body Weight of 44 grams, respectively.
