The fisheries Bureau here marked the start of the 61st observance of Fish Conservation Week with a promenade of vibrant colors in a fun walk along the regional government center, a thanksgiving mass at the regional office and an opening program at SM City, Tuguegarao City.
Anchored on the theme: Sama-sama Tungo sa Maunlad at Likas-kayang Pangisdaan sa Bagong Pilipinas, this year’s celebration highlights the collaborative efforts from various stakeholders with shared vision to achieve a sustainable and resilient fishery towards a vibrant blue economy.
The DA-BFAR 2 chief and Assistant Director for Technical Services (BFAR-Central), Angel B. Encarnacion emphasized the importance of convergence of local government units and private sector-led initiatives to help the government’s efforts in improving the country’s economy, citing his observance and experiences in a recent official trip abroad.
Addressing all the partner institutions and private sector present in the event, Encarnacion urged everyone to continue to make proactive actions, collaboration, giving emphasis on integrity towards a sustainable and progressive sector in the Philippines.
Meantime, DA-RFU 2 Regional Executive Director Rose Mary G. Aquino, who was invited as Guest of Honor, in her talk, said that her office is interested to explore partnership with the DA-BFAR 2 in potential areas for development such as Tuna livelihood programs along the coastal municipalities of Isabela, Shrimp industry in Sta. Teresita, and feasible rural aquaculture projects.
Capping her message, Director Aquino said when there is “NO FISH – NO PEACE”, highlighting the importance of fish diet in human health.
Recognizing the key roles of its partner institutions, individuals, associations toward fisheries development, the DA-BFAR 2 lauded their exemplary contributions through the Gawad Parangal at Gawad Pagkilala.
Committed and dedicated public servants of the Bureau were also recognized for their loyalty to the agency. Employees with academic milestones were also recognized during the activity.
The audience also witnessed the ceremonial dismantling of confiscated prohibited fishing devices as part of the agency’s stance against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing activities along Philippine waters.
