As part of the culminating activities of the 61st Fish Conservation Week Celebration, the fisheries Bureau recognized its partner institutions, local government units, private sector and individuals for their notable accomplishments and contributions towards the development of the fisheries sector.

The local government of unit of Abulug, Cagayan where the first legislated Multi-High Value Species Municipal Hatchery was located was hailed during the awarding ceremony. The Local Government Unit of Abulug in collaboration with the DA-BFAR RO2 initiated the establishment of a Municipal Tilapia Hatchery amounting to Php 1.15M in 2012 with a primary objective of providing quality tilapia seedstocks to fishpond operators that will boost the aquaculture production of the municipality.

Meantime, the DATAJ Aquafarm Incorporated, region 02’s top producer and exporter of white-leg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) was also honored for their valuable contributions in fisheries development. The DATAJ Aquafarm Incorporation is a prominent player in the aquaculture industry in the Philippines, specifically known for its production of Penaeus vannamei, commonly referred to as white-leg shrimp. The company operates multiple state-of- the art farms located in Sta. Teresita and Buguey, Cagayan, each with distinct characteristics and operational scales.

Further, the city of government of Santiago also received a recognition award for their significant contribution in the fisheries sector. The city of Santiago encompasses approximately 154.243 hectares, catering to both backyard and commercial Tilapia grow-out operations.

In collaboration with a partnering agency, and owing to the success of the project, the BFAR distributed 2,000 pcs of Ulang and 26,000 pcs of improved GET-EXCEL Tilapia broodstock through the Cagayan Valley Freshwater Technology Outreach Station at San Mateo, Isabela.

On the other hand, the Local Chief Executive Officer of Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya Hon. Roland M. Carub also known as “CARUBa ti UMILI” was also recognized. Carub stands out not only for his role as the head of the Committee on Trade and Industry but also for his transformative contributions to the fisheries sector, particularly in salt industry development.

Recognizing their exemplary achievements as beneficiaries of the Fisheries Scholarship Program, an educational grant provided by the Philippine government, Regional Director Angel B. Encarnacion, Dr. Emma L. Ballad, and Atty. Arsenio A. Banares received the Recognition Award.

Said award is the highest recognition given to regions that have remarkable milestones and accomplishments in the implementation of the country’s Fisheries Scholarship Program. (with reports from A. Usquiza, FMRED)
