To uplift the livelihoods of fisherfolk and aims to increase fish production in the locality, BFAR 2 initiated the Training on Grow-out Culture of Freshwater Fish Species held at Liwan Sur, Enrile, Cagayan on September 24-25, 2024.
The training addressed key subjects, including site selection and pond preparation, as well as the monoculture and polyculture of tilapia, catfish, and giant freshwater prawns, along with fish health management. A significant aspect of the training was the practical application on the second day, where participants engaged in site validation, stock sampling, and on-site water quality analysis, allowing fishpond operators to apply their theoretical knowledge. Fifteen fishpond operators from Liwan Sur and Norte participated in the training.
Attendees during the training was Ms. Margarita B. Dayag, Municipal Agriculturist and staff, barangay officials and other members of the community. (A. Cristobal, PFO-Cagayan)
