In a continued effort to uphold transparency, efficiency, and compliance with national standards and towards service excellence, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 02 conducted a two-day orientation and workshop on Records Management and Republic Act 9470, also known as the National Archives of the Philippines Act of 2007 on October 1-2, 2024.
With the growing need for proper documentation and safeguarding of public records, the activity aimed to equip personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance the agency’s records management processes.
Resource speakers with expertise on records management and archiving from the BFAR Central Office, Ms. Mary Joy Malvas and Ms. Michelle Fontelar, led the sessions, which covered the following critical topics:
Understanding RA 9470: A thorough overview of the law, emphasizing its importance in managing, preserving, and securely disposing of public records in government agencies.
The Importance of Effective Records Management: Demonstrating how well-organized records enhance operational efficiency, promote transparency, and ensure accountability across the agency.
Utilizing the General Records Disposition Schedule (GRDS) and Agency Records Disposition Schedule (ARDS): Practical instructions on classifying, inventorying, and properly disposing of records, following national standards.
In his message, Regional Director Angel B. Encarnacion, stressed the significance of proper records management in his opening message: “Efficient records management is not only essential for operational excellence but is also a reflection of our commitment to transparency and accountability in public service. This workshop will help ensure that BFAR 02 continues to set a high standard for responsible governance.”
Meantime, Dr. Emma L. Ballad, OIC of Finance and Admin Section, echoed the importance of this initiative, stating:”By equipping our personnel with the right tools and knowledge in records management, we are safeguarding not only the integrity of our operations but also the public trust that we hold.” Being true to its mandate, the DA- BFAR 02 remains steadfast in its mission to align with the highest standards of governance and compliance.
