In a bid to bolster foreign collaborations with the Japanese government, the fisheries Bureau joined the 75th anniversary celebration of Kochi University where dignitaries, faculty, students, and alumni from around the globe were invited on November 1-4, 2024 in Kochi, Japan.
Highlighting the university’s rich history and commitment to academic excellence, the Kochi University hailed Dr. Emma L. Ballad, a distinguished alumna as one of the 15 invited alumni from eight different countries, during the ceremony.
Meantime, Dr. Horoyuki Ukeda, University President discussed about future initiatives through the Kochi University Koyu-kai, an alumni association that will serve as a platform for graduates to connect, network, and support one another after leaving the university. It also plays a role in promoting the university and engaging current students by facilitating mentorship and collaboration as well as maintain strong ties between alumni and the institution, enhancing the overall experience for both groups.
The collaboration between Kochi University and the DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 2 has spanned two decades, focusing on research, education, and sustainable fisheries management. To date, a number of the Bureau’s technical staff has participated in the university’s Sakura Science Program while some KU faculty conducted researches in the region. The activity also served as an avenue to affirm the commitment of BFAR RO2 in its collaboration with the university.
