The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 02, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Field Office No. 02, successfully conducted a consultative meeting on Integrated Farming System (Rice-Fish Culture) on January 8, 2025 at Conference Hall of BFAR Regional Office 02 in Tuguegarao City.

The Integrated Farming System is funded under Palayamanan Plus, a rice-based production system project aimed at increasing productivity and profitability in rice farming through purposive integration of certain farming components.

Ms. Janine Q. Tumaliuan, Science Research Specialist II discussed the Guidelines on Program Implementation to ensure a unified and clear framework in rolling out the initiative that maximizes land productivity while supporting fish production in the region.

This convergence underscores the shared commitment of both agencies to support farmers and fisherfolk by enhancing their livelihoods through innovative and sustainable farming approaches.

Atty. Ronaldo R. Libunao, Chief Aquaculturist of Fisheries Production and Support Services Division, highlighted the importance of the program and expressed optimism about the collaboration, emphasizing the potential of integrated farming systems to transform agri-fisheries practices in the region.

This joint endeavor was attended by key personnel from both agencies. Representing the DA RFO team was Ms. Chonalyn A. Pascua, OIC of the Research Division, along with her staff. The BFAR R02 team included Mrs. Cheyserr P. Garcia, OIC of the Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Unit; Mrs. Ma. Visitacion G. Llanto, OIC of the Budget Unit; Dr. Ritchie Rivera, Provincial Fisheries Officer (PFO) of Batanes; Mrs. Jennifer Tattao, PFO of Cagayan; Mr. Christopher Casco, PFO of Quirino; Mr. Jay Arre Usquisa, PFO of Nueva Vizcaya; and Ms. Carivie Bandulin, representative from the Province Fishery Office of Isabela. Other personnel also participated, ensuring a comprehensive and collaborative discussion on the program’s implementation.
