STA. ANA, CAGAYAN — The DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 2 (DA-BFAR2) recently witnessed the signing ceremony of a landmark conservation project aimed at protecting the humpback whales in the Babuyan Marine Corridor with focus along the Sta. Ana waters. The project, spearheaded by Balyena.Org, is funded by the USAID Investing in Sustainability and Partnership for Inclusive Growth and Regenerative Ecosystems (INSPIRE) Program.

Held in the municipality of Sta. Ana, Cagayan, the event brought together key stakeholders committed to marine biodiversity conservation. DA-BFAR 2, along with representatives from USAID, the Gerry Roxas Foundation, the Mabuwaya Foundation, DENR 2, NCIP Cagayan, the LGU of Sta. Ana, the Franciscan Apostolic Sisters, and various Indigenous People groups were present to affirm their support for the project.

With the signing, stakeholders have committed to working together to implement sustainable practices that will ensure the long-term preservation of the whales and their habitats in the region. The project is expected to foster environmental awareness and enhance the region’s conservation efforts.
