SAN MATEO, Isabela – The DA-BFAR 2 recently spearheaded a skills training program focused on the “Package of Technologies” to support aquaculture development in Isabela. This initiative aims to equip local fish farmers and aquaculture enthusiasts with essential knowledge and skills, helping to enhance the province’s aquaculture sector last February 26-28, 2025. Through this initiative, participants will gain insights into modern techniques and technologies, promoting sustainable and efficient practices in the industry.
In collaboration with the local government and stakeholders, several activities were conducted such as hands-on workshops, expert-led discussions, and demonstrations of innovative farming techniques. Key topics included grow-out management measures, water quality management, feed optimization, record keeping, and harvesting practices designed to maximize yield while minimizing environmental impacts.
Likewise, the participants were also taught about the concept of financial literacy through the Fish N’ Learn technique, an interactive gamification method simulating a real-life event that influence the financial behavior of fishermen and their families. It aims to empower the agri-fisheries sector by reinforcing positive money habits and values among fisherfolk through a fun and interactive game.
Said training is a prerequisite prior to the awarding of technology demonstration projects to the qualified project recipients. (V. Ujano, PFO Isabela)
