TUGUEGARAO CITY – The fisheries Bureau equips resource managers in conducting coral assessment using digital tools to ensure that coral covers are surveyed and monitored by streamlining data collection, improved accuracy and enable long-term management of coral ecosystem in a two-day Training Workshop on Coral Identification through Coral Point Count-extension on March 12-13, 2025 organized by the Fisheries Resource Management Section.
Recognized for his expertise in the CPCe software, Mr. Jhessie R. Lagundino, Forest Ranger from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Region 02 was invited to share his insights and helped participants in navigating the system during the workshop.
The CPCe is a Windows-based software that provides a tool for the determination of coral cover using transect photographs. During the workshop, a specified number of spatially random points were distributed on a transect image and the features underlying the points are identified by the participants individually along with data interpretation and report writing.
The fisheries Bureau partners with the DENR in its resource conservation and management initiatives to promote biodiversity and to ensure sustainable use of resources found in terrestrial and aquatic environments. (A. Cristobal, PROCA)
