DINGALAN, AURORA – FMA 1 Chair RD Angel B. Encarnacion delivered a message of support to the LGU Dingalan during their 69th Founding Anniversary on June 16, 2025, guided by this year’s theme, “Dama ang Matatag na Dingalan sa Bagong Pilipinas”.
In 2022, the FMA 1 Management Board fully supported the proposal of the municipality of Dingalan for the construction Fish Port Complex to include the 10MT Ice Plant and Ice Storage Facilities knowing its great potential as one of the tuna hub of the Philippines. The construction commence soon.
According to stock assessment report, there has been a documented increase (212%) in catch landings of oceanic tuna and tuna-like species within Fisheries Management Area (FMA) 1 from196.78 MT in 2020 to 614.57 MT in 2024. This phenomenon could be attributed to the Kuroshio Current in the Northern Pacific, which influences the availability of food and creates favorable environmental conditions for the increase of oceanic tuna and related species landings. Furthermore, the strategic geographic location of the area, adjacent to the Philippine Rise—a region characterized by significant marine biodiversity and habitat complexity—plays a crucial role in this ecological dynamic. This area serves as a nursery zone for various oceanic tuna species, including the economically important bluefin tuna, which is recognized for its high market value.
“Indeed, tuna fisheries in Northeastern Pacific Seaboard is a potential source of economic growth and food security for the country noting that there is an increasing trend in catch and size of tuna in the area as per stock assessment study. By focusing on our area, we can potentially develop our tuna fisheries and contribute to the country’s overall tuna production and economic growth,” RD Encarnacion said.
“The bureau is fully committed on this transformative plans of FMA 1 and in particularly to the LGU Dingalan on tuna commodity and other developmental fisheries initiatives,” he added.
RD Encarnacion ended his message of support by challenging the LGU to continue to thrive and grow while preserving its natural beauty and resources and warm hospitality towards Matatag at Magandang Dingalan! (JRb Taguinod)
