CLAVERIA BRACKISH WATER FISH FARM (CBFF)

Address: Barangay Pata East, Claveria Cagayan

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The Claveria Brackishwater Fish Farm(CBFF), located at Pata East, Claveria Cagayan is the biggest and one of five DA-BFAR RO2 operated fish farms in Region 02. It was established in 1951 under Resolution No. 19, Series of 1951 as Northern Luzon Demonstration Farm(NLDF). The resolution was approved on December 11, 1951 designating and proclaiming 8.55 hectares of land portion of the nipa swamp area at Pata East, Claveria, Cagayan to be converted into a demonstration fish farm by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. Of this area, only 4.06 hectares were developed and enclosed with dikes. The remaining 4.49 hectares were undeveloped.

By virtue of Executive Order No. 116 Series of 1987, the Department of Agriculture was reorganized and BFAR was merged to DA. The Northern Luzon Demonstration Fish Farm(NLDFF) was renamed Claveria Brackishwater Fish Farm-Cagayan Valley Lowland Marine Research Outreach Station(CBFF-CVLMROS) and became one of the satellite stations of CVLMROS-APC at Iguig, Cagayan. It was then given minimal budget for its development.

BFAR was reconstituted as a line bureau and took effect on February 25, 1998 by virtue of RA 8550, otherwise known as the Philippine Fisheries Code, changing the name to Claveria Brackfishwater Fish Farm(CBFF). Now, the state of the art development of the station is fast moving forward. The construction of 0.5km access road started on the 3rd quarter of 2001 and was completed on the 3rd quarter of 2002. The lot where the road was constructed witn an area of 1,450 square meters was donated by the Layus family represented by Hon. Pedro Layus, Jr., SB Member. Concreting of perimeter fence and rip rapping of fishpond dikes commenced. Such development of the station is geared towards catering the needs of its clientele better.
