IGUIG, Cagayan — In its aim to boost fisheries production in the region, fisherfolk from two districts of Cagayan province participated in the Provincial Fisherfolk Assembly organized by the Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordinating Division on April 24, 2023, at the DA- Southern Cagayan Valley Research Center, Iguig, Cagayan.

Said activity aims to encourage fisherfolk and potential fish farming enthusiasts to engage in aquaculture as a lucrative source of income and alternative livelihood.

Fisheries experts of the Bureau discussed business aspects of fish farming using different aquatic environments such as freshwater, marine water and brackishwater.

Likewise, participants were also taught on the importance of complying to the good aquaculture practices as provided in the country’s GAQP Manual to ensure quality of fish for human consumption.

Other important tips in fish farming were also discussed during the activity. Further, Regional Director Angel B. Encarnacion, in his talk, assures the fisherfolk that his office will extend necessary support as long as it can and that there will be priority areas to be considered for fisheries assistance.
