TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Researchers and resource managers from the fisheries Bureau here and partner State Universities across the region convened for the annual Fisheries Research and Development In-House Review to evaluate scientific papers and studies that can contribute towards the development of the fisheries sector on October 4-5, 2022.

Fourteen papers were featured during the review which was assessed by Dr. Casiano H. Choresca, Jr. together with Dr. Maria Theresa M. Mutia and Dr. Frolan A.  Aya, among the country’s top caliber fisheries experts and scientists from the DA- National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (DA-NFRDI) and Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC)-Aquaculture Department.

Meantime, Regional Director Angel B. Encarnacion in his opening message, encouraged researchers to submit their works for reviews and accept constructive criticisms to make their studies worthy for publishing in scientific journals such as The Philippine Journal of Fisheries (TPJF) run by the DA-NFRDI.

As highlight of the activity, the study entitled: “Stocks Status and Marketing of Nematopalaemon tenuipes caught in Aparri Cagayan: A case of Gentleman’s Agreement Management Strategy”garnered the BEST PAPER Award; “Effects of Freshwater Fish Sanctuaries ,Fish Diversity, Catch and Household Income of Fisherfolk in Baggao, Cagayan, Philippines “ placed second; third place went to “Climate Change Vulnerability of Eel Fishery in Gonzaga, Cagayan”; while the study on “ Climate Change Vulnerability of Eel Fishery in Aparri, Cagayan bagged fourth place ; and the paper presented by Mr. Nielvin Cansejo entitled “ Evaluation of the Phytochemical Components and Antimicrobial property of Gracilaria edulis Extracts Against Selected Aquaculture Pathogenic Bacteria awarded fifth place.
