Today, November 7, 2022, the DA-BFAR 2 and the local government of Abulug, Cagayan led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 30 Million pesos worth- Fishery Research Center in Barangay Centro, Abulug, Cagayan.

The project was sponsored by Hon. Samantha Louise V. Alfonso, Representative of the Second Congressional District of Cagayan through House Bill No. 2255 which was enacted into law as Republic Act No. 11400 or known as “An Act Establishing a Fisheries Research Center”, aims to improve the fisheries industry not only in Abulug but all the municipalities in the district.

Once operational, the facility with an area of 7, 594 square meters will focus in exploring researchable areas on fisheries commodities such as tilapia, mudcrab, eel and other high value species, and eventually will cater as training center on hatchery operations in the Region.

The ground breaking activity was graced by Regional Director Angel B. Encarnacion and other DA-BFAR 2 key officials, local government officials headed by Local Chief Executive Jesus Emmanuel P. Vargas, fisherfolk and other guests.
